Iran calls on Nigeria to respect religious figures, sites
Iran has called on Nigerian authorities to respect religious figures and sites following two days of deadly persecution against the country’s Shia Muslims. “Nigeria… is now dealing with problems arising from extremism and Takfiri terrorism and we hope that in these conditions preservation of calm and national unity in battling terrorism is prioritized while rash and unconstructive measures are avoided,” IRNA quoted Irans Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaber-Ansari as saying on Sunday.

Saudis vote women into municipal councils for first time ever
For the first time in the monarchy’s history, women have been elected to municipal councils in Saudi Arabia. On Sunday, a total of 19 women have been elected so far from all over the country, one day after the kingdom’s election, which allowed women to vote and run as candidates. According to the Associated Press, out of the country’s 130,000 registered female voters, 106,000 cast ballots, in other words around 82 percent of the eligible female voters took part in the elections.

Nigerian troops raid prominent Shia cleric’s residence
Nigerian government troops have carried out a raid on the private residence of a top Shia cleric in the country’s northern regions. According to reports, the soldiers opened fire on local residents who were trying to protect the cleric , Ibrahim al-Zakzaky, on Saturday. The army’s incursion followed the eruption of clashes between troops and Shia Muslims in the country’s city of Zaria, Kaduna State, in which at least 15 people were killed and many more injured.

Senior Indian and Pakistani security officials have held talks on a variety of issues including terrorism and repeated ceasefire violations along their de facto border.
